Frequently Asked Questions |
1.
How do I get my e-mail?
Type smail.hunter.cuny.edu into any web browser.
2.
Is the SNetID the same as my e-mail login before?
Yes.
3.
Can I assume my SNetID is first initial + last name?
No. See your welcome letter or the Email Lookup page at https://cfml.hunter.cuny.edu/emaillook
4.
Is the password the same as before?
Not necessarily. All passwords have been reset to a random password.
5.
Can I use Eudora or Outlook to POP my mail?
Yes. Change the POP server to smail.hunter.cuny.edu, and make
sure your e-mail address or return address is <SNetID>@hunter.cuny.edu
6.
What will happen to my shiva/hejira mail?
As of Friday August 30, student e-mail is going to two places:
the student's old account on shiva or hejira, plus the new account
on SMail. This will continue for a short transitional period,
allowing students to:
- Forward old email from shiva or hejira to themselves in order
to keep a copy on the new system;
- Notify correspondents to send new email to them at '<SNetID>@hunter.cuny.edu';
- Download, copy or send their old PINE addressbooks, files
and so on.
7.
Will people still be able to send e-mail to my old address?
Yes. E-mail sent using @hunter.cuny.edu will always work; e-mail
sent using @shiva.hunter.cuny.edu or @hejira.hunter.cuny.edu
will continue to work, although you should notify people to
send e-mail to you at <SNetID>@hunter.cuny.edu in the
future.
8.
I was forwarding mail from my shiva/hejira account to another
account. Is that still being done?
No. Forwarding will have to be reset. For guidance, see the
Forward email section on the SMail
page at snet.hunter.cuny.edu
9.
Has my e-mail address changed?
Your e-mail address is <SNetID>@hunter.cuny.edu. You may
need to resubscribe to e-mail lists in order to post, if you
were formerly using <userID>@shiva or <userID>@hejira
as your e-mail address.
