This web-based service gives you private access to your Hunter Student e-mail account. You can jump off from this page to log on to your SMail Exchange account on the web, where you will be able to read and send mail, check your calendar and address book, and use most of the features that are available within the Outlook client application.

Logging into the systemThere are a number of ways you can access the Log On page for Hunter College email:1. Direct your browser to http://smail.hunter.cuny.edu/smail/

2. Direct your browser to http://snet.hunter.cuny.edu/
To login to the student e-mail system, click on the SMail button; click the Log On button

The secure option allows for the creation of a secure connection between a client and a server, over which any amount of data can be sent securely.A dialog box will pop up asking you to enter in your User Name and Password

Sending a New E-mail Message
Step 1: Click the “New”
button on the left side of the toolbar. A new message box will open.

Step 2: Enter recipient addresses in the “To:” “Cc:” or “Bcc:” boxes. (The message will be sent to the addresses in all three boxes, but the names of the recipients in the “Bcc” box will not be visible to other recipients.) If sending to more than one address in a single box, separate addresses with a semicolon (;).
Step 3: To select recipient names from your Address Book, click the “To:” or “Cc:” button.
Step 4: In the “Subject” box, type a subject heading if there is one.
Step 5: In the message body, type the message.
Step 6: Click “Send”

Sending an Attachment
You must create a new message to send a file as an attachment. You can attach files in two ways:
1. In the new e-mail click the Insert File icon (it looks like a paperclip).
A new window appears giving you the chance to select the file to be attached.
Step 1: Click the “Browse” (Figure 1) button and select the file that you want to attach
Step 2: Click “Open.” (Figure 2)
Step 3: Click “Attach” (Figure 3) and close the “Attachments” window, then click “Send.”

2. In the new e-mail click the “Attachments” button. Follow the directions listed above after the attachment screen.

D)
Replying to an E-mail Message
Step 1: Open the email that you wish to reply to
Step 2: Click the “Reply” button on the left side of the toolbar.

Step 3: A new message will appear with the sender's address in the “To:” box. After writing your response, click “Send.”

E) Copying an E-mail Message
Step 1: To send a copy of an e-mail, go to the “Cc:” box between the “To:” and “Bcc:” boxes.
Step 2: Type the e-mail address that you want to send the copy to, then click “Send.”
Note: Use Bcc: to blind carbon copy an email you are sending |

Forwarding an E-mail Message
Step 1: To forward an e-mail, click the “Forward” button in the middle of the toolbar.

Step 2: A message window will open with the content of the message you are forwarding.Step 3: In the “To:” field type the e-mail address that you want to forward the message to.Step 4: Then click “Send.”

Formatting Text in an E-mail Message
Whenever altering the format of any portion of the text, that portion must be highlighted.

Changing the color of the text
Step 1: Highlight the text and click the “ T ” icon with the box of colors located in the middle of the toolbar.
Step 2: Select the color you want by clicking a colored box.

The highlighted text will change to the selected color: 
Making the text bold Step 1: Highlight the text and click the “ B ” icon located in the middle of the toolbar.

The highlighted text will change as shown below:

Italicizing text
Step 1: Highlight the text and click the “ I ” icon located in the middle of the toolbar.
The highlighted text will change as shown below:

Underlining text
Step 1: Highlight the text and click the “ U ” icon located in the middle of the toolbar.

The highlighted text will change as shown below:

Deleting an E-mail Message
Select the e-mail to be deleted and click the Delete icon on the right side of the toolbar, which looks like a black “X.”

You can also delete e-mails by selecting the e-mail to be deleted and pressing the Delete key on the keyboard.All deleted e-mails will go to the Deleted Items Folder. When you want to empty this folder, click the Empty Deleted Items Folder icon on the right side of the toolbar (it looks like a bin with green arrows).

You will get a warning message asking you if you want to permanently delete all the items and subfolders in the Deleted Items folder.

I) Preview Pane Options
Click the Show/Hide Preview Pane icon
on the right side of the toolbar. (The Show/Hide Preview Pane icon is between the Empty Deleted Items Folder and Address Book icons.)You can preview items in your Inbox without opening them by using the Preview Pane (Preview Pane: A window in Outlook where you can preview an item without opening it. To display the item in the Preview Pane, click the item.) — just click the message to display the text of the item.
J)Creating Folders

Step 1: Go to the “New” button on the left side of the toolbar (with the envelope and letter icons), press the down arrow and select “Folder.” |

Step 3: In the “Folder Contains” box, click the type of folder you want to create.
Step 4: Select a location for the folder.

L) Forwarding Hunter E-mail to a Personal E-mail Account – Other Methods
1. You can redirect your email by going to the SMail page (direct your browser to http://snet.hunter.cuny.edu/smail/ ) and scrolling to the section with the heading of “Redirect Email”. You can log in to your email account either through the standard or secure option.
2. You can also go to the SNet helpdesk located at Hunter North Room 109, on the 68th St. Campus to redirect your email. Make sure you bring a photo ID with you. You can reach the helpdesk at (212) 650-3624 or by emailing them at snet@hunter.cuny.edu . The helpdesk is located in the Game room at the Brookdale Campus.

Changing your Password

Step 1: Log into your e-mail account using your OLD password.
Step 2: After logging in, click the “Shortcuts” button on the left side of the screen and select “Options.”

Step 5: In the “Domain” box, type in Studentnet.
Step 6: Type your username in the “Account” box, then type in your old and new passwords.
